Welcoming 2013 from this small sleepy little hill station Lansdowne proved to be wise decision. I had promised myself when I last visited Lansdowne (Click http://karantraveller.blogspot.in/2012/12/home-stay-in-true-sense-prem-sadan.html for complete driving directions and other details of Lansdowne) a few months back that I’m gonna be here again when 2012 turns to 2013. The streets were all empty by 8.30pm on New Year’s eve and even I was tucked in bed by 9 pm after relishing mouth watering food cooked by Raju, the cook, at Home Stay. Welcoming New Year under the stars in the lawns with only a few souls around the bonfire was a great experience. I reached Lansdowne on 30th and came back on 3rd. There’s nothing much to do around Lansdowne and that I feel is the beauty of the Place. Not much of commercialization, it's life of simplicity. I used to get up by 7-7.30 in the morning and have breakfast in the morning Sun. Tell Raju to pack my lunch and head out for hiking.
While hiking, I discovered a secret spot up on a mountain, a beautiful ledge which could be accessed by hiking up the mountain for around 1 km. A perfect place to soak the winter Sun with beautiful views of snow clad Himalayas even when you are lying down on the ground. I loved the place so much that it became a daily ritual for me to hike up to this place and spend the whole day soaking sun while reading, listening to music and doing photography. The place is so beautiful that you feel like capturing every moment and keeping it with you.
On just one occasion I went out of town to this temple known as Tarkeshwar Mahadev. It’s about 36 Kms from Lansdowne. Beautiful drive and equally beautiful place. The temple is at an altitude of 1800m, surrounded by Deodar and Pine trees. I specially loved the drive back to Lansdowne in the evening. The whole sky turned orange and every bend on the road offered breathtaking views. Finally I reached back to Gurgaon on 3rd with all the beautiful memories of the place. I’m happy that I kept the promise!!!!!
